Vase . FLORIS HOVERS . CARTER . 2014

The typical imagery of cast engine blocks and gearbox housings formed the basis for the new design by Floris Hovers. Where engine blocks and housings are predominantly cast from aluminum or steel, Floris Hovers has opted for a different material and a different application. Namely the one made of cast stone and with the end goal of a vase. Engine blocks and housings are often sealed using a gasket. The head gasket is well known and ensures a seal between the engine block and cylinder head. Combining this imagery and the idea of ??sealing with a recognizable, iconic vase shape creates a two-part vase that allows different color combinations to be created. The two parts are connected using a seal and different screw torques. However, due to the assembly of ceramic parts, this must always be done in our workshop. (You cannot order individual parts for this yourself.) The final image leads to recognition on the one hand, but also to a distorted image on the other.

The manual folding and shaping of the vase after casting creates shapes that would never be possible in mass production and from a mold alone. The manufacturer gives it his own touch, so that each vase is unique and the ceramic has the mobility of a fluttering leaf.

This vase is made by hand, each product is unique in color. There may be imperfections such as pinholes or small deformation.
