The typical imagery of cast engine blocks, crankcases and (transmission) housings formed the basis for Floris Hovers' design. Where engine blocks and housings are predominantly cast from aluminum or steel, Floris Hovers has opted for a different material and a different application. Namely the one made of cast stone and with the end goal of a vase.
After designing the Carter Vase, Hovers developed an intermediate piece that can actually be seen as a control box that can be placed between the crankcase. This makes it possible to stretch the crankcase vase.
Engine blocks and housings are often sealed using a gasket. The head gasket is well known and ensures a seal between the engine block and cylinder head. Combining this imagery and the idea of ??sealing with a recognizable, iconic vase shape creates a two-part vase that allows different color combinations to be created.
The parts are connected to each other by a seal and various screw torques. The final image will, on the one hand, lead to recognition, but on the other hand, it will also lead to a distorted image.
Some time later, a second version of the Gear Vase appeared with the sides angled so that you can form a circle with them.
This four-stage finish is a solid design that also uses four solid glaze colors that gradually blend into each other.
